I’ll let you be the judge of it.
The first steps towards the PR2 robot autonomously detecting and opening doors have been taken!

During my Willow Garage internship, Ioan and I worked on a few things with the PR2 mobile robot. Here’s one of them.

If you were ever wondering how a spinning 2D laser sensor unit looks like from the inside, Travis Deyle has a few of them linked on his Hizook portal web site.
More news. I’m getting ready to fly to CA for an internship at Willow Garage for the next two months. In case you don’t know what they do, check out their new web page (screenshot below). Basically they are building a robotics platform called PR2 (Personal Robotics v2), which they want to distribute to research labs (hopefully across the world) to advance research in mobile robotics. Besides the PR2, they are heavily supporting ROS (Robot Operating System) as an open-source framework for robotics research. They already assembled a cool team of people at WG, and are looking for more motivated individuals to join them, so if you’re interested, check out their current job openings.
Besides the official WG blog, Ken Conley @ WG has a cool blog including news regarding WG up at kwc.org.
In other news, I finally “reconstructed” some of the old content: about, and publications. Depending on how much free time I can find, I’ll look for a good WordPress plugin that could take care of some of my old photos. Everything else will have to wait a bit.
